TIPS TO PREVENT BACK PAIN AND SCIATICA FOR MOTHERS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

The one thing mothers of babies and toddlers do more than just about anyone else is bend - to lift baby into the car or put them on their hip, or to tidy up toys or just picking up baby for a cuddle.
Bending can create a greater stress on the spine than almost any other movement - so it's important to do it right. Squat down rather than bend to pick things off the floor - including your child. Use the muscles in your legs and arms to lift - they're stronger than those in the back.
Other tips to reduce strain when bending:
Kneel down by the bath when bathing children.
Always lower the side of the cot when attending to a child.
Make sure the baby's changing mat is on a surface that is at the right height to prevent overstretching the back muscles. It's only natural to act quickly in response to a crying or bored child. But moving rapidly to prevent tears can mean creating hazardous demands on your back - such as those resulting from twisting, overstretching, or lifting loads badly - which will slow you down in the long run.

PRESCRIBED DRUGS

Taking prescribed medications with most vitamins is safe as is taking herbal complexes that are available through health food stores. However, you should always check with your doctor, your pharmacist or your naturopath. They are all trained to know what can go with what.

Weight loss

Overweight is most commonly a result of overeating and lack of exercise. Overweight and fluid retention often go together with people who have glandular problems or under-active thyroids. In such cases an iodine and phosporous deficiency may be the cause.
